Ways you can use technology for business growth

If you’re not using technology to grow your business, you’re going to be left behind

Technology is all around us. From the smart phones we carry in our pockets to the self-driving cars being put through their paces across the globe, there’s no denying technology is now part of our day to day lives.

No doubt, we’ve all heard the tale about the smart phone you have in your hand right now being millions of times more powerful than the computer used to land man on the Moon, just over 50 years ago. Technically accurate or not, technology has come a long way since room sized computers and files that took hours to download.

But even with all this hi tech stuff at our fingertips, many businesses are still not using technology for business growth. Far from being inaccessible or expensive, technology can help grow your business with just a few clicks and from virtually (do you see what we did there?) anywhere.

Mobile phone friendly website

Possibly the easiest way to use technology for business growth is to have a business website. It’s the only digital real estate you truly own making it a crucial business tool. Ensuring your website was mobile friendly used to be just an option as most people accessing the internet used a desktop computer or laptop.

But that all changed when mobile phone technology allowed secure, stable internet access in the palm of your hand. Suddenly, everyone was going online using their phones.

According to an Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) report Communications and media in Australia: How we use the internet, nearly all adult Australians (99 percent) have access to the internet. And ‘mobile phones were the most commonly used device to connect to the internet (with) 93 percent of Australians using a mobile phone to go online in the 6 months to June 2021.’

If you want your business website to be seen by the people who want to buy what you’re selling, it needs to be mobile friendly.

Enhance your digital presence

With nearly all Australian adults having access to the internet, digital marketing should be right up there on your business To-Do list. Unless you’re the only shop in town or what you sell is so exclusive and desirable, people come to you, if your business isn’t on the internet, it may as well be invisible.

Not to mention, the internet allows you access to a global audience. If transforming your business into a global brand and world domination is your goal, it’s now possible from anywhere in the world.

The cloud

The cloud has been around for a while and yet business uptake has been a bit slow. Why? It could be anything from the corporate centralised office structure to a lack of urgency. All it took was a global pandemic that saw millions of workers having to work remotely, quite literally, overnight. Suddenly, technology and the cloud were in the forefront of many a business owners mind.

Moving your business online means your entire team have access to everything at the same time, and from anywhere in the world.

Dream of travelling around Australia and working remotely? Want to finalise some reports while the kids are having swimming lessons? Or do you enjoy working from your gorgeous back garden, listening to birdsong rather than the traffic outside an inner-city office?

Social Media

Did you know 4.48 billion people across the world use social media every day?[1] That’s more than half the global population of around 7.8 billion. And the average social media user accesses 6.6 social media platforms. That’s a lot of people (and their money) looking for your business each and every day.

If you want to use social media technology for business growth, do the research (or hire someone to do it for you), find where your customers are and speak to them.

Just a few things social media can do for your business:

  • promote your products, goods and services
  • engage with your customers
  • attract new and retain existing customers
  • show your customers who you are with relatable, engaging content
  • work for you 24/7.

Cyber security

When using any type of technology, protecting your business, your business tools and your customer’s data must be an absolute priority. Whether you’re a sole trader or you’ve got hundreds of people accessing your systems and data daily, you need genuine risk management and security measures put into place.

Not sure what you need?

The IT Agency has security and risk management solutions to keep your business network, data and devices secure from external attack or intrusion. Whether it’s the cloud or physical hardware such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones, we’ll make sure your business is protected from unauthorised use and any company data stored on them is secure.

When it comes to technology, this is just the tip of the online iceberg. Technology moves faster Usain Bolt and if you want to stay one step ahead, or even if you’re not sure what you need but you know you need something, we’re here to help.
